home sweet home
Two hours now
I’ve observed a spider –
back and forth,
back and forth –
methodically creating its home
within a far corner of my rented space
and my usual fear
has become fascination.
Tonight,
I will not create a painful
death by sprayed chemicals,
as the arachnid of so many nightmares
and nighttime bites
gets a temporary reprieve
while I watch in awe.
